Why does my phone say Telcel, not RoamClean?

Your phone shows the local network RoamClean uses, not our name. That's normal.

At the top of the screen your phone shows the local network your RoamClean eSIM is connected to, such as Telcel or AT&T in Mexico, Verizon in the US, Rogers in Canada or Movistar in Spain. Phones always show the network carrying the signal, not the company that sold you the eSIM.

You'll know the name in advance: every plan card lists the networks by name, and so does the “When you land” card in your order email.

Name the line “RoamClean”

A label makes the line easy to find in Settings. The status bar will still show the network's name.

  1. 1

    On iPhone

Settings > Cellular > tap the new line > Cellular Plan Label > enter “RoamClean”. The label appears in Phone, Messages and Contacts.
  2. 2

    On Android

Open your SIM settings and tap the new eSIM. Most phones let you rename it; menu names vary by model.

Choosing Telcel by hand (Mexico)

Mexico plans use Telcel and AT&T, and your phone picks between them automatically. Most travelers never need this. If AT&T is weak where you are, you can choose Telcel, which reaches more of the country.

  1. 1

    Open network selection

iPhone: Settings > Cellular > tap the RoamClean line > Network Selection.
  2. 2

    Turn Automatic off

Wait for the list of networks to load.
  3. 3

    Tap Telcel

Your phone stays on Telcel until you turn Automatic back on.
  4. 4

Back on the road? Turn Automatic on

If your signal drops or data stops, for example on a highway or in a town Telcel doesn't reach, go back to the same screen and turn Automatic on.

On Android, look for “Network operators” or “Automatically select network” in the settings for the RoamClean SIM. While Telcel is chosen by hand, your phone won't switch to AT&T by itself.

Quick Compatibility Check

Most unlocked phones from 2019 or later support eSIM. Your phone must also be carrier-unlocked. Check your model below:

Apple iPhone: iPhone XS, XR and every model since, including SE (2nd gen or later). iPhones sold in mainland China don't support eSIM.
Samsung Galaxy: S20 series and newer, Z Flip and Z Fold (3 or newer).
Google Pixel: Pixel 3 and newer.
Any phone: dial *#06#. If you see an “EID” number, your phone supports eSIM.
