Does Verizon work in Mexico?

Yes. Verizon says all its Unlimited plans, including Simplicity and myPlan, include talk, text and data in Mexico. High-speed data is 2GB a day, then 3G speeds of up to 1 Mbps. Plans without Mexico pay $6 a day for TravelPass.

You probably don't need an eSIM if

  • You're on Simplicity, Unlimited Welcome, Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Ultimate, and 2GB a day at high speed is enough.
  • You're on Verizon Prepaid's 15 GB, Unlimited or Unlimited Plus plan, which include Mexico at no extra cost.

A travel eSIM helps if

  • Your plan doesn't include Mexico, so TravelPass would cost $6 a day: $42 for a week, per line.
  • You're on Verizon Prepaid Talk & Text, which needs Prepaid TravelPass for data in Mexico.
  • You need more than 2GB in a single day, for example a hotspot for a laptop.

Calling, texting and data in Mexico at no extra cost.

  • Talk & TextA travel eSIM helps

If your plan doesn't include Mexico: Verizon's paid options

TravelPass in Mexico: $6/day

Per line. 5GB high-speed per 24-hour session, then 3G. 2GB more costs $5.

Pay as You Go: $2.05/MB

Good to know before you go

  • TravelPass starts by itself when you make or answer a call, send a text or use data in Mexico, including background data like app refreshes.
  • If more than 50% of your talk, text or data in a 60-day period is outside the US, Verizon may remove or limit those services there.
  • Roaming must be on in your phone's settings to connect in Mexico.
  • Unlimited calls to Mexico from the US are included on its Unlimited plans.

When you do want an eSIM

RoamClean's Mexico eSIM runs on the Telcel and AT&T networks. Data only, the days start when you connect in Mexico, and a never-installed eSIM is refunded to your card.

Using one with your Verizon line? Keep Verizon on for calls and texts and turn data roaming off on it, so it can't use data in Mexico. How. Visitors on a travel eSIM don't need to register it in Mexico today; see the registry guide.

Quick Compatibility Check

Two checks before you buy:

1Your phone supports eSIM

Apple iPhone: iPhone XS, XR and later, including SE (3rd gen). SE (2nd gen): Apple's pages disagree, so check for an EID. Most iPhones from China mainland don't support eSIM.
Samsung Galaxy: S20 series and newer, Z Fold and Z Flip models, and some A models depending on region. Google Pixel: Pixel 4 and newer, and some Pixel 3 and 3a models.
Any phone: if Settings shows an “EID” (iPhone: General > About; Pixel: About phone > SIM status), your phone supports eSIM.

2Your phone is unlocked

iPhone, 10 seconds: Settings > General > About > Carrier Lock should say “No SIM restrictions”. A locked iPhone stops at “eSIM Not Supported”.
Android: Samsung shows it under Connections > More connection settings. Pixel or another phone from a carrier: check with your carrier.
