When you land

Four settings, once, after you touch down. Your plan's days start when the eSIM first connects there.

The four steps

  1. 1

    Turn on the eSIM line

When your iPhone asks, tap Turn On Travel eSIM. Or switch the RoamClean line on in your SIM settings.
  2. 2

    Set it for mobile data

Choose RoamClean as the line for cellular or mobile data.
  3. 3

Turn on data roaming for it

Data roaming on, for the RoamClean line only. Our network partner requires it: the eSIM connects as a roaming line.
  4. 4

Keep your home line on for texts

Leave your home line on for calls and bank codes, and turn data roaming off on it so it can't run up roaming charges.

On iPhone

With iOS 26 and later, your iPhone may do steps 1 and 2 for you.

  1. 1

    Tap “Turn On Travel eSIM”

Choose Travel eSIM and Current eSIM to keep your home number on. Apple: “your travel eSIM will be used for data.” No prompt? Settings > Cellular > tap RoamClean > Turn On This Line.
  2. 2

    Check the data line

Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data > choose RoamClean.
  3. 3

    Data Roaming on for RoamClean

Settings > Cellular > tap RoamClean > Cellular Data Options > turn on Data Roaming.
  4. 4

    Home line: roaming off

Tap your home line > Cellular Data Options > Data Roaming off. Also turn Allow Cellular Data Switching off.

iOS 26 also offers Low Data Mode when the travel eSIM turns on. It pauses automatic updates and background tasks off Wi-Fi, which makes your data last longer.

On Android

  1. 1

    Pixel: choose the SIMs

Settings > Network & internet > SIMs. Set Mobile data to RoamClean and keep Calls and Texts on your home SIM. Turn Automatic data switching off.
  2. 2

    Pixel: roaming

In the same SIMs screen, open the RoamClean SIM and turn Roaming on. On your home SIM, turn it off.
  3. 3

    Samsung: choose the SIMs

Settings > Connections > SIM manager. Make sure RoamClean is switched on, then under Primary SIM set mobile data to RoamClean and calls and texts to your home SIM.
  4. 4

    Samsung: roaming

Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > turn on Data roaming. Your home SIM isn't carrying data, so it won't use roaming data.

Good to know

Give it a few minutes

The first connection can take several minutes, and occasionally up to an hour. Leave the phone on and keep it out of airplane mode.

You'll see the local network

The top of your screen shows the local network, such as Telcel or AT&T in Mexico, not RoamClean. Why.

Still no internet?

Work through the No internet? checklist. It takes about five minutes.

Bank codes and texts

Your home number keeps receiving texts. More on keeping your home number.

Quick Compatibility Check

Two checks before you buy:

1Your phone supports eSIM

Apple iPhone: iPhone XS, XR and later, including SE (3rd gen). SE (2nd gen): Apple's pages disagree, so check for an EID. Most iPhones from China mainland don't support eSIM.
Samsung Galaxy: S20 series and newer, Z Fold and Z Flip models, and some A models depending on region. Google Pixel: Pixel 4 and newer, and some Pixel 3 and 3a models.
Any phone: if Settings shows an “EID” (iPhone: General > About; Pixel: About phone > SIM status), your phone supports eSIM.

2Your phone is unlocked

iPhone, 10 seconds: Settings > General > About > Carrier Lock should say “No SIM restrictions”. A locked iPhone stops at “eSIM Not Supported”.
Android: Samsung shows it under Connections > More connection settings. Pixel or another phone from a carrier: check with your carrier.
